here, now, today

"how are you getting on with your recovery? What have been your highlights and downfalls lately?"

I was recently asked this question on my formspring, and wanted to answer it here on the blog, because I haven't updated you all in some time.

My recovery has been going really well lately.  Despite the normal body image woes that are inevitable with a changing physique, I am constantly progressing and pushing towards health.  The highlights for me recently have been the physical activity I am able to engage in and all the energy I exert now-a-days.  I love the feeling of being able to do yoga and feel the strength that my body is gaining.  The uplift I receive from just 10-20 minutes on my mat is phenomenal.  And the fact that my hair doesn't fall out in mass amounts is also a plus ;)

With every upside, there has to be a downside.  And as I said before, body image is a real issue.  I am fearful of how I will look to the world, but that is constantly being worked on.  I have an amazing group of friends and family and an awesome therapist, so I've got all the tools I need to work through it.  Another downfall I've been stuck in lately is fear.  I am absolutely, without a doubt fearful of how things will turn out.  This consequently goes along with all my body image issues, but it is also another issue in of itself.

I am not too sure how I am doing on the weight front, seeing as how I've been pretty much doing the whole recovery thing on my own.  I do have a doctor's appointment coming up in April, so I will be anxious to hear what they have to say.  Hopefully I fit the bill of health!  But I'm not too sure if that's a far stretch.  I'll make sure to let you know!

If you have anymore questions for me, don't ever hesitate.
I am usually really fast at answering anything you could possibly inquire!

  9. Little by little, I guess. You seem to have very good observation of yourself and what's going on and that's a very important part of health and recovery, I guess. You sound brave and beautiful to me!

  10. I'm so glad to hear your recovery is going well. Even though I've been in recovery for a while now, you inspire me to keep going every time I read your blog.

Don't stress about the little hiccups along the way--what's important is that you're realizing that they're just little blips on the radar. You have a goal and you're strong enough to push past the obstacles that you encounter on the way there. Keep believing in yourself--you are beautiful, wonderful and unique!!!

  14. I'm so proud of the progress you're making, Emily. The best thing to remember is to simply take each day one by one. You'll have good days, you'll have bad days; but the best part is that you're making it through each one! :)
